The National Peace Council joins the world in observing this year’s international day of peace. The event under the theme “Peace: Our Greatest Resource for the Future” is geared towards the creation of an enabling environment for Ghana to thrive and develop.

This event seeks to urge Ghanaians to change the narrative that considers peace a peripheral desire to a valuable national asset with a call for stakeholder engagement to sustain the peace the country was enjoying.

The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Most Rev.Emmanuel Asante, said Ghana continues to be a beacon of peace in the West African Sub-Regions indicated in the latest global index released by the Economic and Peace Institute Ghana.

The Resident Representative a.i for the United Nations Development programme (UNDP) ,Ms Silke Hollander, urged Ghanaians not to take the peace the country was enjoying for granted, adding that peace is precious and requires sustained efforts.

Ms Hollander attested that Ghana had built up an effective peace architecture and UNDP was particularly proud to have been part of the journey that led to the formalization and the strengthening of the national peace council and its regional councils.
