Inter-faith Peace Crusade for Peaceful Elections Held in Kumasi
On October 16, 2024, the National Peace Council, in partnership with the Ashanti Regional Peace Council, MD Multimedia, and the Christian Council of Ghana, successfully organized the Inter-faith Peace Crusade at the Kumasi Central Mosque, Islamic Education Unit Conference Room. The event brought together key religious leaders, state institutions, and community members to promote peace, unity, and peaceful coexistence ahead of the 2024 elections.
The event was graced by dignitaries such as the Tijaaniya Chief Imam, the Asokwa Police Divisional Commander, the Former NPC Chairman, and representatives from the Armed Forces Central Command. The keynote speaker, the Chairman of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches (GPCC), urged participants to discourage religious-based voting and instead focus on policy-driven choices, emphasizing the importance of maintaining national unity.
The crusade sought to increase awareness among inter-faith groups regarding their pivotal role in ensuring peaceful elections. It also encouraged collaboration between inter-faith organizations and state institutions to sustain peace before, during, and after the elections. Attendees included representatives from Christian and Muslim groups, political parties, NGOs, the National Youth Authority, Senior High Schools, and local business groups.
This initiative is part of the Council’s broader efforts to foster peace and democracy in Ghana, ensuring that the 2024 elections are free from violence and religious conflict.
