UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for West Africa engages National Peace Council Staff

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for West Africa and the Sahel Dr. Leonardo Santos Simão and his entourage from the United Nations Office in Ghana called on the leadership of the National Peace Council (NPC) to discuss ways of enhancing peace in Ghana.

Dr. Simão who also Heads the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) commended the NPC for its role in ensuring Ghana’s peace and stability. Noting that ‘Peace is never a finished job’ Dr. Simão stated the resolve of his outfit to work with the NPC to enhance peace in the West African Subregion.

The Executive Secretary of NPC, Dr. George Amoh, acknowledged the immense support UNOWAS gave the Council in executing some key programmes last year.  Dr. Amoh on behalf of the Council presented smog to the Head of the UNOWAS as a form of appreciation.

The discussions focused on strengthening partnerships between the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) and the NPC to promote peace, security, and stability in Ghana and the wider West African region.

Key areas of collaboration touched on peacebuilding initiatives in schools and promoting peaceful resolution of disputes in Bawku.

The visit underscores the importance of cooperation between international organizations and local institutions in advancing peace and stability in the region.
