In a bid to end vigilante groups in Ghana as proposed by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his State of the Nation Address (SONA) to the Parliament on 21st February this year, the two major political parties the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has met with the National Peace Council as the mediator to begin the preliminary process.

The meeting went down as one of the major landmark towards a shutdown on vigilantism in the political space.

The NPP and the NDC in effect agreed to stop the ownership, hiring and the utilization of vigilante and or militia groups by political members.

In a communique signed by the Chairman of the NPP and NDC, Mr. Freddie Blay and Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo respectively disclosed that the two parties have agreed to also cooperate with the relevant state agencies to ensure all of such groups are disbanded.
