Dr. George Amoh is the Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council of Ghana. He has over 22 years professional experience in the fields of Conflict/Peace, governance, human rights, project management, data management and community development.
Dr. Amoh has a PhD in Development Studies from the University of Cape Coast. In addition, he holds two master’s degrees in social work from the University of Ghana, and Human Rights from the University of Education, Winneba, Ghana. Additionally, he has a post graduate Diploma in Human Rights, from the University of Lund in Sweden.
At the Peace Council, where he serves as the Executive Secretary, he was a key facilitator for the 2016 and 2020 High Level Meetings that brought all the presidential candidates for the signing of the Peace Accord in Accra. In 2015, Dr. Amoh was the convenor for the high-level dialogue between leaders of the Christian and Muslim communities in Ghana to find ways of resolving the conflict around the hijab. Also, in 2019 he served as the convenor and the interface between the National Peace Council Mediation Team on the Dialogue against Vigilantism and the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party. Mr. Amoh contributed to the parliamentary consultation that culminated in the passage of the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act 999 in 2019.
As part of his contributions to the fight against violent extremism and terrorism, he has been facilitating training events for communities, traditional, religious, and educational leaders since 2019 in Ghana.
Between 2022-2023 George represented the Ministry of the Interior as a member of the Working Group set up by the Minister for Foreign Affairs to provide technical support to Ghana’s membership on the UN Security Council. Besides, he was also a member of the technical committee by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for the Peace Keeping Ministerial Meeting which took place in Accra from 5-7 December 2023. Dr. Amoh is currently, Ghana’s representative on the Steering Committee of the Global Action Against Mass Atrocity Crimes (GAAMAC) based in Geneva.
Prior to joining the National Peace Council, Dr. Amoh had worked for the Commission on Human Rights & Administrative Justice, the Legal Aid Scheme, and Ghana Integrity Initiative, all located in Ghana, in different capacities.
