The objective of the Peace Ambassadors Club is to make our young people Ambassadors/Agents of peace to support the realization of the core mandate of the National Peace Council; which is to ensure the sustainable peace of Ghana through conflict prevention, management and resolution.
The role of the youth as vital as it is in ensuring sustainable peace has largely been ignored; meanwhile their role as tools for violence has overly been exploited to the detriment of the youth and that of society. This unfortunately is the case despite the fact that the youth are the most susceptible to the present and future consequences of violence and insecurity.
Sadly, there has not been any conscious policy or programme to educate future generations to develop and apply none violent attitudes when they find themselves in any conflict situation.
This project therefore provides an avenue to raise a new generation of young peace actors who will play active and frontal role in the peace building efforts of the country. With the requisite empowerment, we are confident the youth will contribute effectively to violent conflict prevention, management and resolution as well as countering violent extremism – a global phenomenon that is actively present in our sub region.
We want our youth and the general public to be well informed about this threat to our peace and to vigilantly support in countering it, as it is already at our doorsteps (through Burkina, Mali & Ivory Coast).
