The Greater Accra Greater Accra Regional Peace Council (GARPC) was established in November 2018. the Secretariat can be located in the yard of the Public Works Department (PWD) adjacent the Accra
Metropolitan Assembly.
In November, 2018 the first 13 eminent members representing various religious group and civil society organizations were inaugurated and sworn -in. They are currently serving a four-year term which will expire in November 2022. The work of the GARPC spans across 29 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies.
The Council works in collaboration with the various governmental organizations, the media and privately-owned institutions to successfully execute workplans and programmes.
Some of the activities run by the Council since its inception as parts of efforts to sustain peace in the region include;
*Peace training workshops in various election hotspots: Nima, Ashaiman, Odododiodoo, Obum, Amansaman.
*Creation of peace awareness on radio and national television.
*Inauguration of the Peace Ambassadors Clubs in one Senior High School in the Odododiodoo constituency.
