Central Regional Peace Engages St. Michael Girl’s Basic School on the Dangers of Involving in Vigilantism
The Central Regional Peace Council Organized a Peace Education program at St. Michael’s Girls School in Cape Coast on 31st January 2024.
The school was celebrating Catholic Educational Week; hence students were dressed up in traditional outfits. The program was facilitated by Dr. Joyce DeGraft Aquah and Alhaji Abakah, who are members of the Council.
Students who are exposed to or witness violence can experience acute and long-term damage to their physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. The consequences can be lifelong and transgenerational and lead to economic disadvantages and a reduced quality of life.
Peace education activities therefore help address this problem by promoting the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will help people either to prevent the occurrence of conflict, resolve conflicts peacefully, or create social conditions conducive to peace. Core values of nonviolence and social justice are central to peace education.
