‘Conflict Prevention is a shared Responsibility’-NPC
Dr. George Amoh, Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council (NPC) has observed that conflict prevention is a shared responsibility by all stakeholders, working together to ensure sustainable peace in the country.
He made this point in a lecture at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College on the topic: Conflict Prevention Management and Resolution to students of the 2025 Conflict and Crises Management Course for Senior Command and Staff Course 46.
Referencing renowned authors including Galtung and R.J. Rommel to illustrate different definitions of conflict, Dr. Amoh shared a comprehensive overview of conflict, exploring its various concepts, sources, and the essence of peace.
In discussing the causes of conflict, Dr. Amoh distinguished between latent and manifest factors and noted that the desire for power was a significant driving force behind several conflicts.
He however noted the importance of collaborative conflict resolution efforts, particularly through dialogue, as a crucial element in managing and resolving conflicts. “This approach fosters shared understanding and facilitates the achievement of agreeable solutions” he added.
