Greater Accra Peace Council Sensitizes Over 500 SHS Students on Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding.

On 16th July 2025, the Greater Accra Regional Peace Council (GARPC) held a peace education and sensitization session at Accra High School, reaching over 500 students with a message of nonviolence, inclusion, and conflict resolution.

The initiative aimed to:

  • Increase awareness of the National Peace Council’s mandate,

  • Equip students with tools for managing conflict and promoting respectful communication,

  • Sensitize students on the dangers of bullying and violence,

  • Foster a peaceful, tolerant, and inclusive learning environment.

Mr. Henry Attoh Okai, Acting Regional Executive Secretary, speaking on behalf of Rt. Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey, emphasized that peace education is a strategic response to growing concerns about violence in secondary schools. He urged students to choose peaceful approaches to resolving conflicts, noting that “conflict is inevitable, but how it’s managed determines its impact.”

Esther Kwarteng, Assistant Programmes Manager, reinforced this by warning of the lasting effects of violence and bullying on education and personal development. She encouraged students to be law-abiding, avoid negative peer pressure, and become peace ambassadors both in school and in their communities.

The session was also graced by Rev. Sampson Okai, the school chaplain, and Sheikh Abass Haroun Saleh, an eminent member of the Council, who both echoed the call for peace and unity on campus.

The program was a collaborative effort between GARPC and Accra High School, and it significantly contributed to shaping a safer and more supportive educational environment for the students.
