NATIONAL PEACE COUNCIL CONDEMNS KILLING OF STUDENTS
IN BAWKU AND NALERIGU
1. Accra, July 28, 2025 – The National Peace Council (NPC) condemns the reported
killings of students at the Nalerigu Senior High and Bawku Technical School and
assassinations at Asawase in Kumasi.
2. The attacks and killings of the innocent students and the reported incident in Asawase
are barbaric, cruel, distasteful, criminal, reprehensible and a blot on our human rights.
The Council expresses deep condolences to the families of the deceased and calls on the
Security agencies to expedite investigation into the incidents and ensure speedy justice
for the affected.
3. The Council expresses grave concern about the possible linkages of the incidents to the
Bawku conflict. We are worried about the growing insecurity in Bawku, Nalerigu and
Asawase in the face of violent extremists’ activities in neighbouring countries.
4. To this end, the Council further calls on the feuding parties to channel their grievance
to the Otumfuo Mediation Committee. We further call for the revival of the inter-ethnic
peace committee as a complimentary mechanism to the Otumfuo Committee towards
finding an amicable solution to the conflict.
5. The Peace Council appeals to the parties in the conflict to pursue the values of tolerance,
mutual respect and dialogue in any intervention plan to address the issues. Likewise, the
Council appeals to the media and all those who make statements on the matter to
exercise maximum restraint in their pronouncements.
6. In conclusion, the Council commends the Government for the swift actions taken so far
and urges the state and its agencies to act decisively regarding the current happenings,
to ensure peace and security
