Volta Regional Peace Council Promotes Peacebuilding Among Youth Through Campus Outreach at OLA SHS

On 23rd July 2025, the Volta Regional Peace Council (VRPC) embarked on a powerful peace education and sensitization campaign at OLA Senior High School, aimed at shaping the mindset of over 200 students and teaching staff towards non-violence, tolerance, and conflict resolution.

The outreach, themed “Campus Outreach on Peace Education and Sensitization”, sought to:

  • Create awareness about the mandate of the National Peace Council (NPC),

  • Equip students with practical conflict resolution skills,

  • Sensitize the school community on early warning signs of conflict, and

  • Encourage the cultivation of a peaceful and inclusive learning environment.

In his keynote address, Rev. Seth Mawutor, Chairman of the VRPC, emphasized that peace within society begins with inner peace. He urged students to cultivate emotional balance, positive attitudes, and strong interpersonal communication skills. He stressed the role of schools in fostering unity and encouraged students to embrace conflict resolution tools such as dialogue, negotiation, and mediation.

“Substance abuse and violent behaviour disrupt the peace we strive for. We must choose harmony and healthy living as young people,” he added.

Also in attendance were Rev. Godswill Elorm Courage (Eminent Member), Dr. David Normanyo (Executive Secretary), and other staff of the VRPC, who reiterated the Council’s continued support to schools in the region.

This initiative aligns with VRPC’s mandate to nurture the next generation of peacebuilders and strengthen the foundation of peaceful coexistence in Ghana’s educational institutions.
