VRPC Reaches Over 800 Students at Mawuko Girls SHS with Peace Education Outreach
On 21st July 2025, the Volta Regional Peace Council (VRPC) held a successful peace education and sensitization outreach at Mawuko Girls Senior High School in Ho, engaging over 800 students and staff on the importance of nonviolence, tolerance, and conflict resolution.
The initiative aimed to:
-
Raise awareness about the National Peace Council’s mandate,
-
Equip students with practical conflict resolution skills and early warning knowledge,
-
Encourage the creation of inclusive and non-violent school environments in partnership with school authorities.
Delivering the keynote address, Rev. Seth Mawutor, Chairman of VRPC, expressed concern about the rising cases of violence in SHSs across Ghana and called for proactive measures to secure peaceful learning spaces. He urged students to choose empathy, tolerance, and understanding over conflict, positioning themselves as peace ambassadors within their schools and communities.
Rev. Mawutor also proposed the establishment of a Peace Club at Mawuko Girls SHS to promote sustained dialogue, peer mentorship, and conflict prevention on campus—highlighting that peace is not only critical for academic success but also for national development.
Other dignitaries present included Rev. Godswill Elorm Courage, Dr. David Normanyo, and staff of the VRPC, who engaged with students during interactive sessions focused on practical tools for managing conflicts and promoting peaceful coexistence.
The program, supported by the Volta Regional Peace Council in collaboration with Mawuko Girls SHS, is part of ongoing efforts to deepen the culture of peace and reduce violence in second-cycle institutions across the region.
