National Peace Council (NPC) launches MOU to promote Religious Tolerance in Mission Schools
The National Peace Council (NPC) has with the support of the Ministry of Interior launched a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Managing Religious Diversity in Mission Schools in the country in Accra.
The launch MOU, according to Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak Minister for Interior signifies “the beginning of a transformative journey, whose success depends on its effective implementation and the commitment of all stakeholders to embrace its principles”.
He expressed confidence that the National Peace Council, in collaboration with COMEU and the Ghana Education Service, will roll out sensitisation programmes in schools across the country to achieve this goal.
“Let us work together to ensure that our mission schools remain peaceful places that inspire hope, unity, and excellence. Let us teach our children not only to excel academically but to also live harmoniously with others, respecting the rich tapestry of beliefs and cultures that make Ghana unique” he added.
Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, Chairman of the NPC Governing Board in an address at stated that the “Council will lead a nationwide sensitization programme with the support of the Regional Education Directors to ensure that the guidelines in the MOU are embraced by all stakeholders”.
He called on educators, parents, and students to join us in building schools that are sanctuaries of learning and harmony. “Our presence here today is not just to launch a document, but a testament of our renewed commitment to peace. Let us honour the lessons of Wesley Girls’, Adisadel, and other incidents by ensuring that our schools reflect Ghana’s diversity as a source of strength.”
