Western North Region Peace Council Educates Students on Peace and Conflict Prevention
Project Title: Peace Education and Sensitization for Students in Senior High Schools
On 28th August 2025, the Western North Regional Peace Council (WNRPC), in collaboration with Bonsu Nkwanta Technical Institute, organized a peace education and sensitization program for students. The initiative aimed at promoting awareness of the National Peace Council (NPC), highlighting the consequences of violence in schools, and stressing the importance of discipline and adherence to school rules as a means of preventing conflict.
Project Objectives:

Expected Outcomes:

Improved understanding of peaceful coexistence among students.

Increased awareness on the dangers of illegal mining (galamsey).

Greater recognition of the role of NPC in conflict prevention and peacebuilding.

Keynote Highlights:
Maulvi Zakaria Arthur reminded students that the NPC, established under Act 818 of 2011, exists to promote peace, resolve disputes, and prevent conflicts before they escalate. He stressed that peacebuilding begins in schools and communities, and that students can contribute to national stability by choosing dialogue over violence.
Very Rev. Samuel Kusi-Appiah emphasized the link between societal peace and national peace, noting that harmony within communities builds the foundation for a stable nation. He urged students to stay away from harmful practices such as school violence and illegal mining, cautioning that such behaviors lead to severe consequences including health risks and disruption of education. He encouraged students to remain focused on their academic goals.
At the close of the program, students collectively pledged to uphold peace as their personal responsibility.
