The National Peace Council(NPC) Joins UN@80 Tree Planting Initiative
National Peace Council has participated in the United Nations at 80 Tree Planting Initiative to commemorate 80 years of global service, peacebuilding, and sustainable development in the world.
The NPC was one of the eight strategic institutions selected in the “8 Trees for 8 Decades” initiative, which was under the theme: “Rooted in Partnership, Growing for the Future”.
In a remark at the programme, Dr. George Amoh, Executive Secretary, NPC noted that the symbolic gesture of selecting NPC to be part of the 8 institutions “reflects the UN’s enduring partnership with Ghana and its unwavering commitment to our national development priorities”.
He stated that the tree planting was symbolic and “a living tribute to the values we share with the United Nations: sustainability, inclusion, resilience, and progress”.
Dr. Amoh reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to advancing the goals of the United Nations in Ghana, through multilateral cooperation, democratic governance, peacebuilding, education, and environmental stewardship.
Likewise, Dr. Matthias Awonnatey Ateng, National Peace and Development Advisor to the UN Resident Coordinator explained that “8 Trees for 8 Decades’ initiatives marks a legacy of global presence and partnership, celebrating decades of support for Ghana’s aspiration in peacebuilding, human rights and sustainability.
