Peace Education and Sensitization for Junior High School Students – Western North Region

The Western North Regional Peace Council (WNRPC), in collaboration with JK Ahwoi Junior High School, organized a peace education and sensitization programme on 22nd October 2025 at the school premises. The initiative formed part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to promote peace education and non-violence among young learners in the region.

Objective of the Programme

The programme aimed to:

  • Educate students on the functions and role of the National Peace Council (NPC).

  • Raise awareness about the consequences of violence in schools.

  • Promote understanding and appreciation of diversity and peaceful coexistence.

Expected Outcomes

The sensitization exercise sought to cultivate values, skills, and attitudes that enable students to live harmoniously with one another, resolve differences peacefully, and embrace diversity as a strength. Participants were encouraged to choose dialogue over violence and to respect differences among individuals.

Highlights from the Event

Key remarks were delivered by Ms. Elizabeth Boduwah, Acting Executive Secretary of the WNRPC, and Mr. Samuel Zaukuu, Assistant Administrative Manager.

Ms. Boduwah emphasized the importance of diversity and inclusiveness in peacebuilding, stating:

“Despite our individual differences, we must learn to respect diversity. When people with different ideas and experiences work together, they can find better ways to resolve conflicts. Peace grows stronger when everyone is included and treated fairly. Creating a peaceful environment in your school remains your responsibility.”

Mr. Zaukuu highlighted the mandate of the National Peace Council, noting that:

“The National Peace Council is a government-established body that promotes peace and helps prevent conflicts in Ghana. It works to settle disputes peacefully, educates citizens on the importance of peace, and supports violence prevention efforts, especially during elections.”
