Western North Regional Peace Council Marks International Day of Peace

International Day of Peace

On 25th September 2025, the Western North Regional Peace Council (WNRPC), in collaboration with the Western North Regional House of Chiefs, commemorated the International Day of Peace at Queens Hotel, Sefwi Bekwai. The event brought together traditional leaders, government representatives, religious groups, civil society, security agencies, and students to reflect on the importance of peacebuilding in communities.

Project Objectives

  • To promote dialogue and peaceful means of addressing disputes.

  • To promote regional unity.

Expected Outcomes

  • Enhanced collaboration between government agencies, civil society, and traditional councils.
  • Greater public awareness on the dangers of conflict, including chieftaincy disputes and illegal mining.
  • Adoption of peaceful dispute resolution practices across the region.

Highlights from Keynote Addresses

In his keynote message, Most Rev. Samuel Nkuah-Boateng, Chairman of the WNRPC, underscored that peace is the most powerful force for a better future, reminding participants that no society is immune to conflict. He emphasized the importance of mediation, negotiation, arbitration, diplomacy, adjudication, and the traditional Palaver Tree Formula as vital tools for addressing disputes. He appealed for stronger government and institutional support to sustain the Council’s peacebuilding efforts.

Nana Bayeeman Tano Benbuin Kwaw III also stressed that peace requires collective effort, urging participants to speak out against violence, hatred, and discrimination. He called for placing service above self, dialogue above division, and peace above conflict while embracing diversity as a strength.
