Radio Discussion on Promoting Cultural Tolerance and Understanding – Central Region

The Central Regional Peace Council, in collaboration with Kastle FM in Cape Coast, held a radio discussion on 11th November 2025 to promote cultural tolerance and deepen peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic and cultural groups within the region. The programme formed part of the Council’s broader efforts to strengthen unity and encourage dialogue on issues that enhance social cohesion.

Purpose of the Programme

The discussion aimed to:

  • Promote peace, harmony, and mutual respect among various cultural communities.

  • Educate the public on the importance of cultural tolerance.

  • Foster open dialogue toward reducing misunderstandings and cultural-based conflicts.

Dr. Joyce De-Graft Acquah, Council Member, emphasized the value of appreciating cultural differences, stating:

“Cultural tolerance goes beyond mere acceptance—it involves developing an attitude of respect toward people whose cultural practices differ from ours. When we learn to appreciate other cultures, it reduces conflict, promotes cooperation, and builds mutual respect among communities.”

Dr. Charles Ohene Amoh, Regional Executive Secretary, highlighted the relevance of cultural tolerance to national development, noting:

“Cultural tolerance is a critical pillar of peace and development. It promotes national unity, enhances social cohesion, and attracts investment. Respecting each other’s culture is key to peaceful coexistence, but tolerance should always operate within the laws of Ghana.”
