Capacity Development & Outreach

The object of the Council as stipulated in Act 818 is to facilitate and develop mechanisms for conflict prevention, management, resolution and to build peace in the country. The Capacity Development and Outreach Directorate (CDO) is established to lead in formulating preventive measures and strategies to achieve sustainable peace in the country. The CDO Directorate has the responsibility to provide technical and administrative direction and leadership for the efficient and effective performance of the capacity development and outreach functions of the Council.

The Directorate performs the following core functions.
1. Provides input for the formulation of policies.
2. Development and implementation of strategies and programmes to strengthen capacities of stakeholders and Peace Actors for conflict prevention, management, and resolution.
3. Ensure the conduct of public education on non-violent strategies to prevent, manage and resolve conflict.
4. Development and implementation of outreach programmes to ensure sustainable peace building.
5. Collaborates with relevant training institutions and donors in carrying out the functions of the Directorate.
6. Development and update of a database on Peace Actors.

HOD

Mrs. Janet Dedei Sarney-Kuma has been a Director responsible for Capacity Development and Outreach at the National Peace Council since September 2013. She has more than twenty years work experience within the Public Sector working with the National Commission for Civic Education(NCCE), rising through the ranks to become a Deputy Director in the Research Department before her appointment with the National Peace Council.
