Conflict Management and Resolution Department (CMR)
The objects of the Council as stipulated in Act 818 is to facilitate and develop mechanisms for conflict prevention, management, resolution and to build peace in the country. The Conflict Management and Resolution (CMR) Department is therefore established to lead in formulating strategies to achieve this objective. It is one of critical departments at the Council with responsibility to provide technical and administrative direction and leadership for the efficient and effective performance of the conflict management and resolution functions of the Council.
The department performs the following core functions:
- Development of a system to detect early warning signals;
- Development of a framework for dialogue, mediation and negotiation between actors in conflict;
- Development and update of a conflict database;
- Designing of programmes leading to timely prevention of conflict
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders in the management and resolution of conflict and peace building;
- Development and implementation of guidelines for the management and resolution of conflicts;
HOD
Mr. Frank Wilson Bodza is the current Head of Conflict Management and Resolution at the National Peace Council. Mr. Bodza is a governance expert and a development practitioner, managing multi-donor projects and providing leadership in grassroots initiatives with over 24 years of experience in governance, gender, project management, and human rights, and peacebuilding and conflict management. He holds an MSc in Defence and International Politics with a focus on security and peace operations, a degree he obtained from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College and a Master of Business Management degree from Central University College, Accra, and a BA in Political Science from the University of Ghana. Trained by the Netherlands Institute of International Relations (Clingendael Institute) in mediation and negotiation.
He had previously worked as a Program Manager at Women in Law and Development in Africa (WiLDAF), Ghana, from 2005 to 2020 and as Administrative Officer with RESDEM Consulting Ltd, an energy consultancy firm. He has represented on various coalitions, including the Central and West African Commonwealth Civil Society Forum, the Civic Forum Initiative (CFI), Coalition of Domestic Elections Observers (CODEO). He was a Member of the Technical Committee for Affirmative Action Legislation in Ghana and the Domestic Violence Board. Mr. Bodza is a trained lobbyist, skilled in public speaking, communication, and advocacy. His development ideology emphasizes peaceful co-existence, democratic engagement, gender equality and social inclusion, a participatory and democratic citizen who engages its government processes and provides leadership to others for sustainable development.
