National Peace Council Commends Asantehene’s Bawku Mediation Strides
1. Accra, November 22, 2025 – The National Peace Council (NPC) commends Otumfuo
Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, for his active mediation in the protracted chieftaincy
conflict in Bawku

2. With the final mediation session scheduled for November 30 and December 1, 2025, at
the Manhyia Palace, the National Peace Council is hopeful of the prospect of the
Otumfuo led multi-stage mediation process will bring lasting peace to Bawku.

3. The Council commends the peaceful conduct and cooperation of the parties, in both the
separate and joint meetings with both the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions and urges for
this concession to continue until peace is found.

4. Without a doubt, finding a lasting solution to the traditional and chieftaincy disputes
that have caused significant violence and loss of lives and properties in Bawku and its
environs for decades, would be another plus to our strides as a country.

5. The Council is pleased with the progress made so far and appeals to both factions to
muster the courage and determination to contribute to the Otumfuo Committee’s effort
aimed at addressing the conflict and bringing enduring closure to this protracted conflict
and restore Bawku and the Kasaug traditional area to its former glory as a business hub
in Ghana.
