Central Regional Peace Council Sensitizes Students on Preventing Violence in Schools
The Central Regional Peace Council (CRPC) organized a peace education session at Ekon M/A Junior High School, Cape Coast, on 4th February 2026, as part of its ongoing efforts to prevent violence in schools across the region.
The programme sought to educate students on the various forms and consequences of school violence, including verbal, physical, and emotional abuse. It also aimed to equip students with practical skills and core values—tolerance, forgiveness, and justice—to support peaceful conflict resolution within the school environment.
Through interactive discussions and presentations, students were guided to better understand that while conflict is a natural part of human interaction, violence is avoidable and often stems from poor decision-making and unmanaged emotions.
Delivering the keynote address, Ms. Barbara Mwinkom Yabom emphasized the importance of personal responsibility in maintaining peace. She encouraged students to consciously choose tolerance over insults, forgiveness over revenge, and justice over retaliation. She reminded participants that the peaceful Ghana everyone desires must begin in classrooms and everyday interactions among students.
Expected Impact
The engagement is expected to:
-
Increase awareness of the different forms of school violence
-
Improve students’ understanding of non-violent conflict resolution approaches
-
Strengthen commitment among students and staff to promote a culture of peace
Approximately 125 students, together with teachers and school administrators, participated in the programme.
The Central Regional Peace Council remains committed to fostering safe and peaceful learning environments across the Central Region through continuous education and stakeholder engagement.
