Central Regional Peace Council Educates Students on Vigilantism Law and Violence Prevention
The Central Regional Peace Council (CRPC) organized an educational programme on 25th March 2026 at Abakrampa Senior High Technical School in the Central Region.
The engagement, themed Vigilantism and Related Offences Act (Act 999), Student Violence: Understanding the Consequences, aimed to deepen students’ understanding of the law, highlight the consequences of violence, and promote responsible behaviour and peaceful conflict resolution.
Objectives of the Programme
The programme sought to:
- Educate students on the provisions and implications of the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act (Act 999)
- Raise awareness on the consequences of student violence
- Promote peaceful conflict resolution and responsible behaviour among students
Expected Outcomes
The initiative was designed to:
- Improve students’ understanding of conflict, violence, and vigilantism
- Increase awareness of the legal consequences of violent acts
- Strengthen commitment to peaceful coexistence and responsible reporting within the school environment
Key Highlights from the Presentation
Miss Barbara Mwinkom Yabom (Programmes Manager, CRPC) emphasized that violence, whether in schools or society, carries lasting consequences that can negatively impact students’ futures.
She encouraged students to take personal responsibility for their actions and to actively promote peace within their schools and communities. She highlighted that understanding laws such as Act 999 empowers young people to make informed decisions, avoid unlawful behaviour, and contribute positively to society.
She further urged students not only to refrain from engaging in violence but also to serve as advocates for peace, promoting dialogue, tolerance, and lawful conduct among their peers.
Participation
The programme engaged approximately 230 students of Abakrampa Senior High Technical School, alongside representatives of the Central Regional Peace Council, reinforcing a shared commitment to lawfulness, discipline, and peaceful coexistence within the school community.
