Central Regional Peace Council Engages the Public on Building a Culture of Peace Among the Youth

The Central Regional Peace Council (CRPC), in collaboration with Kastle FM, Cape Coast, organized a radio discussion programme on 2nd June 2026 aimed at promoting a culture of peace among young people and encouraging responsible citizenship within communities.

The discussion formed part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to educate and sensitize the public, particularly the youth, on the importance of peacebuilding, tolerance, dialogue, and non-violent conflict resolution as essential tools for peaceful coexistence and sustainable development.

Promoting Peace as a Way of Life

Speaking during the radio programme, Dr. Charles Ohene Amoh emphasized that building a culture of peace among the youth is a collective responsibility that requires the active participation of families, schools, religious institutions, community leaders, and young people themselves.

According to him, peace is not simply the absence of conflict but a way of life characterized by tolerance, mutual respect, dialogue, understanding, and responsible behavior. He stressed that young people must be empowered and encouraged to become ambassadors of peace within their schools, homes, and communities.

Dr. Amoh urged the youth to reject violence, drug abuse, misinformation, and all forms of divisive behavior that threaten social harmony and national development. He noted that through peace education, mentorship, and positive role models, society can nurture a generation that values unity, respects diversity, and contributes meaningfully to community development.

Responsible Use of Social Media

Addressing the influence of digital platforms, Dr. Amoh highlighted the importance of responsible social media usage. He encouraged young people to use social media as a tool for education, awareness creation, innovation, and peace promotion rather than for spreading false information, hate speech, or content capable of creating tension and division.

He advised listeners to verify information before sharing it and to approach disagreements through dialogue, critical thinking, and mutual understanding.

Strengthening Collaboration for Peace

The discussion also underscored the critical role that parents, educators, religious leaders, community organizations, and media institutions play in shaping the attitudes and behaviors of young people. Participants were encouraged to work together to promote positive values, peaceful coexistence, and social cohesion within their communities.
