Eastern Regional Peace Council Establishes Peace Club at Nasrudin Basic & JHS
The Eastern Regional Peace Council (ERPC), in collaboration with the Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly (Peace Desk), the Ghana Police Service, the District Education Directorate, and Nasrudin Basic & JHS, organized a Peace Education and Peace Club Formation programme on Wednesday, 3rd June 2026, at Nasrudin Basic & JHS in the Upper Manya Krobo District.
The programme formed part of the Council’s efforts to promote peacebuilding, discipline, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence among students while creating a sustainable platform for student-led peace initiatives through the establishment of a Peace Club.
Promoting Peaceful Coexistence Among Students
The sensitization programme aimed to educate students on the principles and importance of peacebuilding, tolerance, mutual respect, and non-violent approaches to conflict resolution. It also sought to encourage positive behaviour and strengthen student participation in peace promotion activities within the school and surrounding communities.
Participants were encouraged to embrace values that foster unity, understanding, and cooperation among people from diverse backgrounds.
Peace as a Shared Responsibility
Addressing the students, Malam Tamimu, Chief Imam, spoke on the Islamic principles of peace and highlighted the importance of tolerance, respect, compassion, and peaceful coexistence.
He encouraged students to demonstrate these values in their daily interactions with classmates, teachers, family members, and members of their communities. According to him, peace begins with individual actions and attitudes and can be sustained when people learn to respect one another despite their differences.
Importance of Discipline and Law-Abiding Behaviour
Mr. Benjamin Abeka Buxton, District Police Commander, educated students on the importance of peace, discipline, law, and order in society.
He highlighted the consequences of violence, indiscipline, and unlawful behaviour and urged students to become responsible citizens by respecting school rules, obeying lawful authority, and resolving disputes peacefully.
The Police Commander emphasized that discipline remains one of the key foundations for personal success and peaceful community living.
Formation of the Peace Club
Ms. Edwina Beverla, District Peace Desk Officer, introduced the Peace Club concept and explained its role in promoting peacebuilding, dialogue, tolerance, and conflict prevention within schools.
She noted that the Peace Club would serve as a platform for students to develop leadership skills, participate in peace education activities, and champion initiatives that promote harmony and positive behavioural change among their peers.
Students were encouraged to actively participate in the club’s activities and become ambassadors of peace both within the school and in their communities.
Following the sensitization sessions, interested students voluntarily registered as members of the newly established Peace Club.
Strengthening Student Participation in Peacebuilding
The establishment of the Peace Club is expected to enhance students’ understanding of peacebuilding and peaceful coexistence while creating opportunities for young people to contribute meaningfully to conflict prevention and the promotion of safe learning environments.
The initiative also supports broader efforts by the Eastern Regional Peace Council to build a generation of responsible, disciplined, and peace-loving citizens capable of promoting harmony within their communities.
