Volta Regional Peace Council Engages Sogakope Senior High School Students on Conflict Prevention and Peaceful Co-existence

The Volta Regional Peace Council has engaged students of Sogakope Senior High School as part of its peace education programme aimed at promoting conflict prevention, peaceful conflict resolution, tolerance, and responsible citizenship among young people.

The engagement, held on 16th July 2026 at Sogakope Senior High School, focused on helping students understand conflict as a normal part of human interaction while equipping them with practical skills in communication, active listening, negotiation, and peaceful dispute resolution. The programme also encouraged students to reject violence and become ambassadors of peace within their school and communities.

Speaking during the engagement, the Chairman of the Volta Regional Peace Council, Rev. Seth K. Mawutor, reminded students that leadership is not limited to individuals who occupy formal positions of authority. He explained that every student has the ability to influence others positively through their words, attitudes, and actions.

Rev. Mawutor encouraged students to use their influence to promote respect, dialogue, and unity while discouraging behaviours that create division within the school environment. He noted that the National Peace Council places strong emphasis on conflict prevention and continues to engage young people because equipping them with the right values and skills is essential for building peaceful communities.

He urged the students to become part of the solution by choosing peaceful approaches when faced with disagreements and challenges, emphasizing that lasting peace begins with individual choices and responsible actions.

The Regional Executive Secretary of the Volta Regional Peace Council, Dr. David Esinu Yao Normanyo, encouraged students to recognize that their daily choices can either contribute to peace or create conflict. He advised them not to allow anger, peer pressure, or emotions to determine their responses during moments of disagreement.

Dr. Normanyo emphasized the importance of self-control, patience, and effective communication in managing conflicts. He encouraged students to resolve misunderstandings through dialogue and seek assistance from teachers, counsellors, and school authorities whenever situations become difficult to handle.

He further reminded the students that true confidence is demonstrated through the ability to remain calm, respect different opinions, and make decisions that protect relationships and promote harmony. He challenged them to become examples of responsible leadership by demonstrating honesty, respect, and a commitment to peaceful coexistence.

The engagement forms part of the National Peace Council’s continued efforts to promote peace education in schools and empower young people with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required to prevent violence and contribute to peaceful communities.

The programme was attended by management, teaching staff, and students of Sogakope Senior High School.
