Strengthening Peace And Responsible Communication In Bawku

The National Peace Council (NPC) has today concluded a two-day capacity-building and dialogue programme aimed at strengthening peacebuilding efforts and promoting responsible communication in the Bawku conflict.

The programme brought together security personnel operating in Bawku and the other districts in the Upper East Region, as well as journalists, media practitioners, bloggers and vloggers whose work and communication can significantly influence perceptions and dynamics surrounding the conflict.

The engagement focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of the Bawku conflict, promoting conflict-sensitive reporting and communication, enhancing collaboration between security agencies and the media, and encouraging approaches that contribute to peace, social cohesion and the prevention of renewed violence.

As Bawku continues its journey towards sustainable peace, responsible information sharing, constructive dialogue and professional engagement remain critical. The media has an important role to play in informing the public without inadvertently escalating tensions, while security agencies have a vital responsibility in maintaining an environment conducive to peace and stability.

The National Peace Council remains committed to supporting stakeholders and communities in building the trust, dialogue and institutional capacity required for lasting peace in Bawku and other districts in the Upper East Region.
