Western North Regional Peace Council Engages Public on Ghana’s Performance on the Global Peace Index

The Western North Regional Peace Council (WNRPC), in collaboration with Uniiq FM, has engaged the public on Ghana’s performance on the Global Peace Index (GPI), highlighting the importance of collective action, responsible citizenship and strengthened peacebuilding efforts in sustaining national peace and security.

The engagement, held on 14th October 2026 at Uniiq FM in Sefwi Boisomeiso, aimed to examine Ghana’s peace and security performance, assess factors influencing the country’s standing on the Global Peace Index, and promote public awareness of conflict prevention, peaceful coexistence and social cohesion.

Speaking during the engagement, Rev. Frank Donkor, Eminent Member of the WNRPC, emphasised the importance of assessing Ghana’s performance on the Global Peace Index to better understand the country’s peace and security situation. He called for collective action among government institutions, security agencies, traditional and religious authorities, the media and citizens to address emerging security threats, prevent conflicts, promote tolerance and sustain national peace.

Elizabeth Boduwah, Acting Regional Executive Secretary of the WNRPC, highlighted the mandate of the National Peace Council under the National Peace Council Act, 2011 (Act 818), particularly its role in conflict prevention, management, resolution, dialogue and sustainable peacebuilding.

She stressed that maintaining Ghana’s peace and stability requires stronger collaboration among stakeholders, peaceful approaches to resolving disputes, sustained community engagement and a shared commitment to social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.

The engagement underscored the importance of public education, responsible citizenship and cooperation among stakeholders in addressing peace and security challenges. It also reinforced the need for citizens and institutions to work together to strengthen Ghana’s peacebuilding mechanisms and safeguard the country’s stability.

The Western North Regional Peace Council remains committed to promoting peace education, strengthening stakeholder collaboration and supporting initiatives that contribute to sustainable peace and national development.
