Western North Regional Peace Council Educates Students on Diversity, Personal Safety and Peaceful Coexistence

The Western North Regional Peace Council (WNRPC) organised a peace education and sensitisation programme for pupils and students of Sefwi Bosomioso R/C Primary School and Sefwi Bosomioso M/A Junior High School on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, at the respective school premises.

The initiative aimed to promote appreciation for diversity, encourage respect for differences, prevent bullying and discrimination, and equip students with practical knowledge on personal safety and abduction prevention.

Addressing the students, Elizabeth Boduwah, Acting Regional Executive Secretary of the WNRPC, cautioned against discrimination, bullying, verbal insults and name-calling, explaining that such behaviours can create divisions, cause emotional distress and undermine peaceful relationships. She encouraged students to demonstrate kindness, cooperation, sharing and mutual respect, regardless of differences in ethnicity, religion, culture or social background.

She emphasised that embracing diversity promotes peace, unity, tolerance and harmonious relationships among students while helping to nurture responsible citizens committed to peaceful coexistence and national development.

She also addressed the issue of sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct by teachers and other individuals in positions of authority. Students were sensitised to recognise unacceptable behaviours, including unwanted touching, inappropriate comments, sexual advances and requests for sexual favours. She encouraged them to speak up and report such incidents to trusted school authorities, parents, guardians or appropriate child protection agencies, stressing that every child deserves safety, dignity and protection and should never be subjected to sexual pressure, intimidation or exploitation.

Shadat Fusseni, Assistant Programmes Manager, educated the students on practical measures to protect themselves against kidnapping and related threats. He encouraged them to remain vigilant, maintain open communication with their parents and guardians, and seek guidance from trusted adults whenever they felt unsafe or encountered suspicious situations.

He further warned students about the dangers of interacting with strangers both online and offline. He advised them against sharing sensitive personal information, home addresses, school schedules and other details on social media that could compromise their safety.

The programme reinforced the importance of building safe, respectful and inclusive school environments where students can learn, interact and thrive without fear of discrimination, harassment or abuse. It also highlighted the shared responsibility of schools, parents, guardians and communities in protecting children and nurturing a culture of peace.

Through this initiative, the Western North Regional Peace Council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace education, child safety, tolerance and peaceful coexistence among young people.
