Consultative Dialogue for Mamprusi and Kusasi Youth Held in Ashanti Region

The Ashanti Regional Peace Council (ARPC), in partnership with the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, convened a high-level consultative dialogue on 13th November 2025 to promote peaceful coexistence between the Mamprusi and Kusasi communities living in the region. The engagement, held at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) Conference Room, brought together traditional leaders, security agencies, youth representatives, religious leaders, and peacebuilding experts.

Purpose of the Dialogue

The programme sought to:

  • Identify practical approaches to restore calm, unity, and harmony between the Mamprusi and Kusasi youth.
  • Prevent a spillover of the longstanding Bawku conflict into other parts of the country.
  • Facilitate constructive engagements on the role of young people in promoting peace within their communities.

Expected Outcomes

The dialogue aimed to achieve:

  • Restoration of calm and strengthened trust between both groups following recent violent incidents linked to the Bawku conflict.
  • Improved understanding of peaceful coexistence and the critical role of youth in conflict prevention.
  • Consolidation of ongoing efforts to find lasting solutions to the Bawku conflict and mitigate spillover tensions in the Ashanti Region and beyond.

Key Messages from Dignitaries

Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Kwaku Asante
Former Chairman, National Peace Council

“Sustaining fragile peace requires visible acts of reconciliation beyond words. Verbal assurances alone are not enough—we must demonstrate through practical steps that we are committed to peace. We are one people, and we should not destroy ourselves. When it comes to finding peace for conflict-affected areas like Bawku, we must adopt a bipartisan approach.”

Baffour Asabere Kogyawoasu Ababio III

“Restoring calm in the Ashanti Region is crucial for building trust and encouraging compromise. A united call for peace by the Mamprusi and Kusasi communities in this region can send a powerful message to their leaders in Bawku, helping to shift attitudes toward peaceful coexistence and lasting resolution.”

Naba Musah Akambonga
Frafra Chief & President, Council of Zongo Chiefs

“The Bawku conflict cannot be fully resolved unless there is willingness to compromise. Flexibility is essential. When we value cooperation and trust, we create the right environment for peace to thrive.”
