Catholic Relief Services Supports Peace Council after Flood Damage

The Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has donated $10,000 to support to the National Peace Council (NPC) following the severe flooding that affected the Council’s Head Office in June 2026. The intervention comes after torrential rains inundated parts of the Council’s premises, damaging office furniture, electronic equipment and other essential items and disrupting aspects of the Council’s operations. Making the donation, CRS Country Representative, Abena Amedormey, noted that CRS empathized with the Council for its loss during the floods and noted that the donation was to contribute to the Council’s ongoing recovery efforts.

Receiving the support, NPC Executive Secretary, Dr. George Amoh expressed appreciation to CRS for responding to the Council’s situation and for its continued partnership with the NPC. “This gesture of support is deeply appreciated. It comes at an important time as the Council works to recover from the effects of the flooding and restore its operational capacity,” he stated. He noted that the support was used has gone to procure furniture to replace and the ones destroyed during the floods.

The CRS has been a longstanding development partner in Ghana, working with local institutions and communities to strengthen resilience and address humanitarian and development challenges. The partnership between CRS and the NPC has also supported peacebuilding initiatives aimed at strengthening community resilience, social cohesion and the prevention of violent extremism.

For the NPC, the intervention is not only timely assistance in the aftermath of a natural disaster but also a demonstration of solidarity with an institution whose mandate is to prevent, manage and resolve conflicts and build sustainable peace in Ghana.
