The Eastern Regional Peace Council engaged pupils of Ellen White SDA Basic School, Koforidua, on Peace Education and Conflict Prevention on 20th November 2025. The session introduced young learners to the basics of peacebuilding, early conflict detection, and non-violent ways of addressing disagreements.
The programme focused on helping pupils understand the value of dialogue, empathy, cooperation, and tolerance as essential tools for maintaining harmony at school, at home, and within their communities.
In her keynote address, Mrs. Dorothy Fianko, Council Member of the National Peace Council, encouraged the pupils to practise kindness, patience, and respect in their everyday interactions. She reminded them that peace begins with small actions—speaking calmly, resolving issues respectfully, reporting concerns responsibly, and supporting one another. She also urged teachers to continue nurturing peaceful attitudes among learners.
Key highlights included:
- Increased awareness of peaceful behaviour and mutual respect
- Improved ability of pupils to manage disagreements through communication
- Stronger collaboration between teachers and learners in maintaining a safe school environment
- Development of young peace ambassadors who contribute positively to their classrooms and communities
About 80 pupils participated in the programme.
The Eastern Regional Peace Council remains committed to building peaceful, tolerant learning environments across the region.
