The Savannah Regional Peace Council (SRPC) has engaged students of Larabanga Islamic Senior High School (LISHS) in a transformative Peace Education programme aimed at promoting nonviolence, tolerance, and a strong culture of peace among young people. The event took place on 4th December 2025 at the school’s Assembly Hall.

The initiative focused on deepening students’ understanding of peaceful coexistence, enhancing their knowledge of nonviolent conflict resolution, and strengthening awareness of the National Peace Council and its mandate.

During the session, students were taken through:

  • Understanding the National Peace Council and its mandate
  • Basic concepts of peace, conflict, and violence
  • The vital role of students in peacebuilding and community harmony

Key speakers—including Rev. Clifford Abass, Rev. Samuel Mahama Dinkeri, and Sheikh Mohammed Karmil Eliasu, all Eminent Council Members—encouraged students to embrace peace, report early warning signs of conflict, and support efforts to build safer school environments. School authorities also expressed their commitment to sustaining peace education.

A major highlight of the programme was the establishment of a Peace Club, aimed at nurturing young peace ambassadors within the school.

Expected impacts include:

  • Improved peaceful coexistence among students and teachers
  • Increased use of nonviolent conflict resolution mechanisms
  • Strengthened awareness of the National Peace Council’s role
  • Ongoing peer-led peace initiatives through the new Peace Club

Over 100 students and staff of Larabanga Islamic Senior High School benefitted from the programme.
The SRPC remains committed to ensuring that schools across the region become hubs of peace, tolerance, and positive youth engagement.
