CRPC Sensitizes Students on Violence Prevention and Peaceful Coexistence in Schools

The Central Regional Peace Council (CRPC), in collaboration with Elmina Methodist Junior High School authorities, has organized a sensitization programme aimed at preventing violence and promoting peaceful coexistence among students.

The programme, held on Friday, 22nd May 2026 at Elmina Methodist Junior High School in Elmina, formed part of ongoing efforts to educate students on conflict prevention, responsible behaviour, and non-violent approaches to resolving disputes within school environments.

Promoting Safe and Peaceful School Environments

The initiative focused on educating students on the causes, effects, and prevention of violence in schools. It also emphasized the importance of tolerance, peaceful coexistence, responsible reporting, and the rejection of violence in all forms.

Students were further sensitized on the dangers of misinformation, disinformation, malinformation, and peer pressure, which often contribute to misunderstanding and conflict in school settings.

Building Responsible and Confident Students

Speaking during the engagement, the Regional Executive Secretary of the Eastern Regional Peace Council, Mr. Prince Albert Koomson, encouraged students to remain confident in doing what is right, even under pressure from peers.

He emphasized that reporting violence or harmful behaviour is not an act of betrayal but a responsible step toward protecting lives and maintaining peace within the school community.

He further urged students to resist intimidation, exclusion, and negative peer influence, and to always choose peaceful and constructive alternatives in resolving conflicts.

Dr. Charles Ohene Amoh noted that violence in schools affects not only academic performance but also the emotional and social wellbeing of students. He stressed that every student has a responsibility to promote peace, reject violence, and report dangerous behaviours through appropriate channels.

He added that peaceful dialogue, tolerance, and responsible decision-making remain essential tools for creating safe and inclusive school environments.

Expected Impact

The programme is expected to improve students’ understanding of violence and conflict, increase awareness of its consequences, and strengthen their commitment to peaceful behaviour.

It will also enhance students’ confidence in reporting violence responsibly while promoting tolerance, inclusion, and mutual respect within the school environment.

Ultimately, the initiative contributes to building safer, more peaceful, and supportive learning environments in the Central Region.
