Eastern Regional Peace Council Engages Public on Peaceful Coexistence and Women’s Role in Peacebuilding

The National Peace Council Ghana through the Eastern Regional Peace Council (ERPC), in collaboration with Angel Broadcasting Network (Taste FM), organized a radio engagement on Monday, 25th May 2026, at Taste FM in Koforidua.

The engagement focused on the National Peace Council’s press release calling for calm amid rising political tensions in the country, while also promoting awareness ahead of the International Women’s Day of Peace and Disarmament celebration under the theme: “From Inclusion to Impact: Women Leading Peace and Local Governance.”

Objectives of the Engagement

The radio discussion aimed to:

  • Educate citizens on the importance of peace, tolerance, and non-violent coexistence during periods of political tension.
  • Promote awareness of the important role women play in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and local governance.
  • Sensitize the public on the upcoming International Women’s Day of Peace and Disarmament celebration and encourage active community participation.

Key Discussions

Speaking during the live radio engagement, Mr. Prince Albert Koomson, Regional Executive Secretary of the Eastern Regional Peace Council, called on citizens, political actors, youth groups, and community members to remain calm and promote peaceful coexistence amid growing political tensions in the country.

He emphasized that peace is a collective responsibility and urged the public to avoid acts of provocation, violence, hate speech, misinformation, and actions capable of creating instability within communities. According to him, maintaining peace and national unity is essential for development and social progress.

Mr. Koomson further encouraged citizens to embrace dialogue, tolerance, understanding, and mutual respect as peaceful means of resolving disagreements and differences.

Touching on the upcoming International Women’s Day of Peace and Disarmament celebration, he highlighted the vital contributions women continue to make in mediation, peacebuilding, social cohesion, and community development. He stressed that empowering women and increasing their participation in leadership and governance structures are critical to achieving sustainable peace and inclusive development within communities.

The engagement also encouraged stakeholders and citizens to actively participate in activities planned for the celebration in Somanya.
