Ahafo Regional Peace Council Promotes Peace and Environmental Protection through Community Dialogue in Adagyemem

The Ahafo Regional Peace Council, in collaboration with the Tano North Municipal Assembly and the Blue Water Guards, organised a community dialogue and environmental safety engagement at Adagyemem in the Tano North Municipality to promote peaceful coexistence, environmental protection, and community participation in safeguarding Ghana’s water bodies.

The engagement brought together traditional authorities, security agencies, government institutions, community leaders, civil society organisations, the media, and members of the Blue Water Guards to discuss the importance of sustaining peace while protecting the environment from the devastating effects of illegal mining (galamsey).

Participants were sensitised on the peace and security implications of environmental degradation and the need for collective action to protect rivers and other natural resources. Discussions highlighted the critical role of communities, security agencies, and the Blue Water Guards in addressing environmental challenges through dialogue, education, and shared responsibility.

Addressing the gathering, the Regional Executive Secretary of the Ahafo Regional Peace Council, Mr. Emmanuel Danyomah, emphasized that protecting the environment is an essential component of sustainable peacebuilding. He noted that safeguarding water bodies is not only an environmental responsibility but also a peacebuilding responsibility, stressing that lasting peace can only be achieved when communities, traditional authorities, and state institutions work together to preserve natural resources for present and future generations.

The dialogue reaffirmed the Ahafo Regional Peace Council’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with stakeholders to prevent conflict, promote environmental stewardship, and support initiatives that contribute to sustainable peace and socio-economic development across the region.

Together, we can protect our water bodies, preserve our environment, and build a peaceful and prosperous Ahafo Region.
