Central Regional Peace Council Sensitizes Students on Vigilantism, Violence Prevention and Peaceful Coexistence

The Central Regional Peace Council (CRPC) has engaged students of Edinaman Senior High School as part of efforts to promote peace education, responsible citizenship and non-violent approaches to conflict resolution among young people.

The sensitization programme, held on 9th July 2026, focused on the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act, 2019 (Act 999), student violence prevention, and the importance of tolerance, dialogue and respect for the rule of law.

The engagement sought to increase students’ understanding of the provisions and implications of Act 999, while encouraging them to reject all forms of violence and embrace peaceful methods of resolving disagreements within their school, homes and communities.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Charles Ohene Amoh emphasized that peace is essential for quality education and national development. He reminded students that every individual has a responsibility to promote peace by choosing dialogue over confrontation, respecting others and upholding the rule of law.

He further highlighted that acts of violence carry serious consequences and encouraged students to become ambassadors of peace by demonstrating tolerance, self-discipline and responsible behaviour in their daily interactions.

The programme strengthened students’ awareness of peaceful conflict management and reinforced the importance of building a safe and supportive school environment where differences are addressed through dialogue rather than violence.

The session benefited approximately 2,000 students of Edinaman Senior High School, with participation from representatives of Global Exploration, Netherlands, alongside the Central Regional Peace Council.
