Greater Accra Regional Peace Council Promotes Peace Education Among Pupils in Ga West Municipality(Mayera MA JHS)

The Greater Accra Regional Peace Council (GARPC) has engaged pupils of Mayera MA JHS in the Ga West Municipality as part of its ongoing peace education and sensitization programme aimed at promoting tolerance, respect, inclusivity and non-violent conflict resolution among young people.

The engagement, held on 8th July 2026 at the school premises, focused on building positive behaviours among pupils, raising awareness on the effects of bullying, encouraging teamwork and strengthening understanding of peaceful coexistence.

Speaking during the programme, Mr. George Oko Mensah, Ag. Regional Executive Secretary of GARPC, introduced the pupils to the National Peace Council and highlighted its establishment under the National Peace Council Act, 2011 (Act 818). He explained the Council’s mandate in preventing, managing and resolving conflicts to promote sustainable peace in Ghana.

He further educated the pupils on the meaning and causes of conflict, noting that disagreements are a normal part of human interaction but can become harmful when handled through violence or hostility. He encouraged students to resolve disagreements peacefully by seeking guidance from school authorities rather than taking matters into their own hands.

Mr. Isaac Prince Glorier, Assistant Programmes Manager, emphasized the importance of values such as integrity, respect for diversity, inclusiveness and trust-building in creating a peaceful school environment. He encouraged pupils to reject bullying, support one another and become positive influences within their schools, homes and communities.

The programme highlighted the importance of creating safe and supportive learning environments where every pupil feels respected and included. Through such engagements, the Greater Accra Regional Peace Council continues to empower young people with the knowledge and attitudes needed to become future peacebuilders.

The session was attended by 175 pupils, comprising 90 males and 85 females, from Mayera MA JHS.
