The Ashanti Regional Peace Council (ARPC), conducted a Peace Education and Sensitization programme for students of Adum Presby 

The Ashanti Regional Peace Council (ARPC), in collaboration with the Small Arms and Light Weapons Commission (SALW), conducted a Peace Education and Sensitization programme for students of Adum Presby J.H.S. on 22nd July 2026 at the school’s Assembly Hall. The programme sought to promote peaceful coexistence among students, educate them on the dangers of illegal possession and use of small arms and light weapons, and encourage young people to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and non-violent conflict resolution.

Addressing the students, the Regional Executive Secretary of the Ashanti Regional Peace Council, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Badu Amoah, emphasized that while conflict is a natural part of life, violence is preventable. He noted that bullying, fighting, intimidation, insults, and the destruction of school property undermine peace, security, and learning. He encouraged students to exercise patience, self-control, and respect for others, and to report grievances through the appropriate school authorities rather than resorting to violence.

The Regional Director of the Small Arms and Light Weapons Commission, Mr. Emmanuel Kenneth Oduro, educated participants on the dangers and legal consequences of the illegal possession and use of firearms. He reminded students that “guns only make you vulnerable, not powerful,” urging them to support efforts to silence the gun and protect the future of Ghana’s youth. He further stressed the importance of reporting any suspicious movement of weapons, warning that firearms in the hands of young people can lead to tragic and irreversible consequences.

The sensitization programme reinforced the importance of peaceful conflict resolution, responsible citizenship, and preventing the proliferation of small arms among young people. More than 100 students, together with teachers and school administrators, participated in the engagement, demonstrating a shared commitment to building a peaceful and secure learning environment.
