The Upper East Regional Peace Council, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), conducted a sensitization programme on non-violence mechanisms for resolving conflicts and promoting peaceful coexistence in second cycle institutions at Bongo Senior High School on 23rd July 2026.

The programme was aimed at promoting a peaceful school environment that supports effective teaching and learning by creating awareness among students and school stakeholders on the importance of dialogue, tolerance, and non-violent approaches to managing disagreements.

In his welcome remarks, the Headmaster of Bongo Senior High School, Mr. Louis Abagale, emphasized that peace remains an essential foundation for the growth and development of every society, including educational institutions. He recounted a recent incident that resulted in the closure of the school for two days and disrupted the academic calendar, noting that an earlier engagement of this nature could have helped prevent the situation.

Mr. Abagale expressed appreciation to the Upper East Regional Peace Council for the initiative and indicated his hope that the engagement would contribute to sustaining the peaceful atmosphere currently prevailing in the school. He encouraged students and staff to continue promoting mutual respect, discipline, and peaceful ways of addressing challenges within the school community.

The Regional Executive Secretary of the Upper East Regional Peace Council, Mr. Damien Asobayire, thanked the management of Bongo Senior High School for creating space within the academic schedule for the engagement. He commended the school leadership for demonstrating commitment to peace and acknowledged that their support reflected the value they place on maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment.

Mr. Asobayire expressed confidence that the sensitization programme would achieve its intended purpose of strengthening students’ understanding of conflict prevention, non-violent conflict resolution, and peaceful coexistence. He encouraged the school community to continue working together to prevent conflicts and sustain peace within the institution.

The engagement brought together the management and staff of Bongo Senior High School, including Mr. Roland Chogisam (Assistant Headmaster – Domestic), Mr. Sylvanus Teita (Assistant Headmaster – Academic), Mr. Awuni Joshua (Senior House Master), Mr. Emmanuel Avebire (Head of Department – Business), Mr. Solomon Akparibu (Guidance and Counselling), and Mr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Salam (Teaching Staff).
