Volta Regional Peace Council Engages St. Kizito Senior High School Students on Conflict Prevention and Peaceful Co-existence
The Volta Regional Peace Council has engaged students of St. Kizito Senior High School as part of its ongoing peace education programme aimed at promoting peaceful co-existence, responsible behaviour, and non-violent approaches to conflict resolution among young people.
The programme, held on 15th July 2026 at St. Kizito Senior High School, was organised under the theme “Understanding Conflict and Building Peaceful Co-existence” with support from the National Peace Council.
The engagement sought to enhance students’ understanding of conflict as a normal part of human interaction and equip them with practical skills in communication, negotiation, active listening, and peer mediation. It also aimed to promote mutual respect, tolerance, inclusion, and appreciation of diversity while encouraging students to reject violence and become ambassadors of peace in their schools and communities.
Addressing the students, the Chairman of the Volta Regional Peace Council, Rev. Seth K. Mawutor, reminded them that every peaceful society begins with individuals who choose to act responsibly, even in difficult situations. He explained that the National Peace Council continues to engage schools because young people have a critical role to play in shaping the future of their communities.
Rev. Mawutor encouraged the students to resolve misunderstandings through dialogue and mutual respect rather than anger or retaliation. He noted that many conflicts can be prevented when individuals are willing to listen, exercise patience, and seek guidance before taking actions that may worsen situations.
He urged the students to become ambassadors of peace by respecting their teachers, supporting their colleagues, and contributing to a school environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.
The Regional Executive Secretary of the Volta Regional Peace Council, Dr. David Esinu Yao Normanyo, emphasised that peace is demonstrated through everyday actions and behaviours. He explained that the way students communicate, respond to correction, and manage disappointment reflects their character and preparedness for future responsibilities.
Dr. Normanyo encouraged the students not to interpret every disagreement as a personal attack but rather to approach differences with understanding and maturity. He advised them to remain calm during moments of misunderstanding, accept constructive criticism, and choose dialogue instead of confrontation.
He further noted that students who can manage their emotions, respect diverse opinions, and maintain positive relationships are better prepared for leadership and responsible citizenship. He challenged the students to make peace a personal commitment and become role models who inspire others through their actions.
The engagement forms part of the Volta Regional Peace Council’s broader efforts to strengthen peace education in schools by equipping young people with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to prevent conflict and promote peaceful communities.
The programme was attended by members of the Volta Regional Peace Council, including Rev. Seth K. Mawutor, Rev. Mgsr. Peter Huletey, and Dr. David Esinu Yao Normanyo, as well as the management, teachers, and students of St. Kizito Senior High School
