Volta Regional Peace Council Promotes Peace Education at Akatsi Senior High Technical School

The Volta Regional Peace Council (VRPC) has engaged students of Akatsi Senior High Technical School as part of its ongoing peace education initiative aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence, tolerance and responsible citizenship among young people.

The programme, held on 13th July 2026 at Akatsi Senior High Technical School, focused on helping students understand conflict as a normal part of human interaction and equipping them with practical skills for managing disagreements through dialogue, communication and mutual respect.

The engagement sought to strengthen students’ understanding of peaceful conflict resolution, encourage respect for diversity and inclusion, and inspire them to become ambassadors of peace within their school and communities.

Addressing the students, Rev. Seth K. Mawutor, Chairman of the Volta Regional Peace Council, emphasized that peace is sustained when individuals take responsibility for their actions and choices. He explained that the Council’s continued engagement with schools is aimed at preventing conflicts by equipping young people with the values and skills needed to build harmonious communities.

He encouraged students to seek support from teachers, counsellors and school authorities whenever they encounter challenges, noting that addressing disagreements early helps to protect relationships and maintain a safe learning environment.

Dr. David Esinu Yao Normanyo, Regional Executive Secretary of the Volta Regional Peace Council, highlighted the importance of respect as a foundation for peaceful coexistence. He encouraged students to listen to others, appreciate different opinions and treat everyone with dignity.

He reminded the students that their daily choices and behaviours affect the wider school community and urged them to use words that encourage, actions that unite and attitudes that promote harmony. He challenged them to become recognised not for conflicts they create, but for the peace they contribute to building.

The programme brought together the management, teaching staff and students of Akatsi Senior High Technical School, reinforcing the importance of youth participation in building a culture of peace.
