Bono East Regional Peace Council Promotes Peaceful Coexistence at St. Francis Senior High School/Seminary
The Bono East Regional Peace Council has organised a peace education and sensitisation programme at St. Francis Senior High School/Seminary to promote peaceful coexistence, tolerance, conflict prevention and peaceful conflict resolution among students and school staff.
The programme, held on 6th August 2026, focused on equipping participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to prevent and manage conflicts peacefully while fostering a culture of peace within the school and the wider community.
Participants were introduced to the National Peace Council and its mandate, gaining a better understanding of the Council’s role in promoting peace, preventing conflicts and supporting peaceful approaches to conflict resolution.
The engagement also highlighted the importance of peaceful coexistence in schools, particularly because educational institutions bring together students from diverse backgrounds, beliefs, cultures and perspectives. Students and staff were encouraged to promote tolerance, mutual respect, understanding, unity and cooperation in their daily interactions.
The programme further explored appropriate ways of dealing with conflicts when they arise. Participants were encouraged to avoid violence, retaliation and confrontation, and instead use peaceful approaches such as dialogue, active listening, negotiation, mediation and empathy. They were also encouraged to seek assistance from appropriate school authorities when conflicts cannot be resolved independently.
The engagement emphasised that peace is a shared responsibility, requiring the commitment of students, teachers, school authorities and members of the wider community. Students were encouraged to become ambassadors of peace by resolving disagreements constructively, promoting unity and supporting a respectful and inclusive school environment.
The programme brought together representatives of the Bono East Regional Peace Council, school authorities, teachers, staff and students of St. Francis Senior High School/Seminary.
The Bono East Regional Peace Council remains committed to strengthening peace education and promoting peaceful coexistence in schools and communities across the region.
