Ashanti Regional Peace Council Promotes Societal Safety and Security for Sustainable Peace

The Ashanti Regional Peace Council (ARPC), in collaboration with Garden City Radio and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Kumasi, organised a radio and television outreach programme on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, under the theme “Societal Safety and Security for Sustainable Peace.”

The programme aimed to educate the public on the importance of societal safety and security, promote collective responsibility for peace, and encourage citizens to take proactive steps towards preventing conflicts and addressing security concerns in their communities.

Speaking during the engagement, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Badu Amoah, Regional Executive Secretary of the ARPC, explained that societal safety and security involve collective efforts to protect individuals, property and communities from threats, violence, crime and other forms of harm. He emphasised that these are essential conditions for peaceful coexistence, social stability and sustainable development.

He highlighted several issues that threaten peace and security, including armed robbery, theft, drug abuse, domestic violence, chieftaincy disputes, land conflicts, political intolerance, youth delinquency, and the irresponsible use of social media to spread misinformation and incite violence.

The presentation also underscored the critical role of citizens in maintaining peace and security, the importance of collaboration between communities and security agencies, and the need to prioritise conflict prevention and peaceful dispute resolution.

Rev. Dr. Badu Amoah stressed that sustainable peace cannot be achieved through security measures alone. It requires public awareness, mutual respect, social responsibility, trust, and the active participation of all stakeholders.

The outreach further encouraged listeners to report suspicious activities and security threats through appropriate and lawful channels, avoid spreading rumours and inflammatory information, and cooperate with traditional authorities, religious leaders, security institutions and peacebuilding organisations to address emerging concerns.

Through this initiative, the Ashanti Regional Peace Council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace education, strengthening community-security collaboration, and fostering tolerance, social cohesion and peaceful coexistence across the region.
