Peace Education and Sensitization for Junior High School Students Held in Ga West Municipality
The National Peace Council Ghana through the Greater Accra Regional Peace Council (GARPC) organized a Peace Education and Sensitization programme for students of Adusa M/A 1 Junior High School and Adusa M/A 2 Junior High School in the Ga West Municipal Assembly on 20th May 2026.
The programme formed part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to promote peaceful coexistence, tolerance, unity, and responsible behaviour among students at the basic school level. The engagement also aimed to educate pupils on the mandate of the National Peace Council and the importance of non-violent conflict resolution within schools and communities.
Objectives of the Programme
The sensitization programme sought to:
- Promote positive behaviour, tolerance, and inclusivity among pupils.
- Educate students on respect, kindness, empathy, and teamwork.
- Raise awareness about bullying and its effects on individuals and the school environment.
- Encourage peaceful and respectful interactions among peers.
- Guide students on responsible behaviour both in school and in their daily lives.
- Introduce students to the work and mandate of the National Peace Council.
Key Presentations and Discussions
Speaking during the programme, Mr. George Oko Mensah, Acting Regional Executive Secretary of GARPC, highlighted the mandate of the National Peace Council in preventing, managing, and resolving conflicts while building sustainable peace across the country.
Using practical examples from the school environment, he explained that conflict is a normal part of human interaction, but how people respond to disagreements determines whether peace or violence prevails. He stressed that conflict negatively affects teaching and learning, while peace creates an environment that supports academic excellence and personal growth.
He further encouraged students to focus on the many similarities they share rather than their differences and advised them to resolve disagreements peacefully through dialogue and understanding instead of violence.
Mr. Isaac Prince Glorier, Assistant Programmes Manager, also educated the students on the values of respect, tolerance, unity, and non-violence as key foundations for peaceful coexistence.
He explained that respect involves kindness, good manners, and consideration for others, while tolerance means accepting differences in tribe, religion, language, culture, and beliefs. He emphasized that unity promotes cooperation and peaceful living among students.
Mr. Glorier further cautioned students against bullying, exclusion, intolerance, and negative peer influence, noting that such behaviours can affect emotional well-being and academic performance. He also advised students to be mindful of distractions from social media and external influences that may negatively affect their studies and behaviour.

- Improve students’ understanding of peace, tolerance, and non-violence.
