WNRPC Engages JHS Students on Peace Education and Conflict Prevention in Western North Region

The Western North Regional Peace Council (WNRPC) has conducted a Peace Education and Sensitization programme for Junior High School students aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence, respect for diversity, and conflict prevention in schools.

The programme was held on 21st May 2026 at Kessikrom Anglican Junior High School and Amafie M/A Basic School under the theme of fostering inclusive and safe learning environments for students.

Promoting Peace and Respect for Diversity in Schools

The initiative focused on educating students on the importance of respecting diversity and promoting inclusion within school communities. It also aimed at equipping students with practical skills for peaceful conflict resolution while preventing bullying, discrimination, violence, and hate speech.

The programme highlighted the importance of cultivating values such as tolerance, mutual respect, cooperation, and kindness among students, regardless of differences in background, religion, ethnicity, or culture.

Building Safe and Responsible Students

Speaking during the engagement, the Acting Regional Executive Secretary of WNRPC, Elizabeth Boduwah, emphasized that diversity should be seen as an opportunity for learning and unity rather than division.

She encouraged students to avoid discriminatory behaviors such as bullying, insults, and name-calling, noting that such actions create division and emotional harm. She further urged students to embrace kindness, cooperation, and mutual respect in their daily interactions.

She added that promoting respect for diversity helps students grow into responsible citizens while strengthening peace, unity, and friendship in schools and communities.

The Assistant Programmes Manager, Shadat Fussieni, also advised students to remain disciplined, confident, and security conscious. He encouraged them to report unsafe situations to trusted adults such as teachers, parents, or school authorities.

He further cautioned students on the responsible use of mobile phones and social media, urging them not to share personal information with strangers or engage in unsafe online communication.

Expected Impact

The programme is expected to cultivate positive values and attitudes among students, equipping them with knowledge on conflict prevention and management. It also aims to promote peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and mutual respect within school environments.

Ultimately, the initiative seeks to build a safer, more inclusive, and peaceful learning environment across schools in the Western North Region.
