Strengthening Local Peace Committees (LPCs) for Sustainable Peace and Community Resilience.
The National Peace Council (NPC), in collaboration with the #GIZ_Ghana, National Centre for Coordination of Early Warning and Response Mechanism (NCCRM), ECOWAS, WANEP, UNDP and partners under the ECOWAS Peace, Security and Governance (EPSG) Project, successfully concluded a two-day Coordination Workshop in Accra on 22–23 June 2026.
The workshop brought together representatives from National and Regional Peace Councils, Local Peace Committees (LPCs), civil society organizations, ECOWAS institutions, and development partners to strengthen collaboration, enhance early warning and response mechanisms, and support the operationalization of LPCs.
Key outcomes included:
Identification of support needs for the effective functioning of LPCs.
Enhanced coordination and collaboration among peacebuilding stakeholders.
Mapping of ongoing interventions to promote synergy and avoid duplication.
Development of a roadmap for operationalizing LPCs within Ghana’s peace and security architecture.
Strengthened partnerships for conflict prevention, early warning, and community resilience.
The workshop reaffirmed the critical role of Local Peace Committees in promoting community-led conflict prevention, fostering social cohesion, and strengthening resilience against emerging security threats.
Together, we continue to build stronger peace infrastructures for sustainable peace and security.
