NPC COMMENDS PEACEFUL DAGBON FUNERAL RITES AND ENSKINMENT OF REGENT

1. Accra, 31 July 2026 — The National Peace Council (NPC) commends the people of Dagbon for the peaceful, orderly and dignified conduct of the funeral rites of the late Ndan Yaa Naa Abukari II and the successful enskinment of the Regent of Dagbon. The Council describes these historic events as a reflection of Dagbon’s resilience, unity and enduring commitment to peace.

2. The Council extends its heartfelt condolences to the Dagbon Traditional Council, the Royal Family, Chiefs, Elders and the people of Dagbon on the passing of His Royal Majesty, whose reign was distinguished by wisdom, humility and an unwavering commitment to reconciliation, justice and unity. His leadership strengthened traditional governance and affirmed that peace remains the foundation of sustainable development and social harmony.

3. The NPC notes that the peaceful observance of the funeral rites, including the First and Second Bɔglilɔgbu, together with the orderly enskinment of the Regent, demonstrates the strength of Dagbon’s traditional institutions and the collective resolve of its people to safeguard peace through respect for custom, dialogue and shared responsibility.

4. The Council expresses sincere appreciation to the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of Interior, the National and Regional Security Councils, the Ghana Police Service, the GhanaArmed Forces,the GhanaNationalFireService,theNationalAmbulanceService and all other security and emergency agencies for their professionalism and effective coordination throughout the ceremonies.

5. The NPC also commends the clergy, the Muslim community, women, youth groups, civil society organisations, development partners, volunteers, the media and all citizens whose prayers, cooperation and responsible conduct contributed to the success of the ceremonies. The Council particularly encourages the media and the public to continue promoting responsible communication by verifying information before sharing and rejecting inflammatory contents capable of undermining peace.

6. As Dagbon enters the regency period, the National Peace Council calls on Chiefs, Elders, opinion leaders, women, youth and every son and daughter of Dagbon to support the new Regent to succeed and to further preserve the enduring legacy of the late Yaa Naa in dialogue, mutual respect, tolerance and the peaceful resolution of differences.
