BAWKU PEACE PROCESS: BUILDING THE CONDITIONS FOR LASTING PEACE
1. The NPC, with UNDP and the Government of Japan, reports that ongoing engagements with the Kusasi and Mamprusi communities continue to yield encouraging commitment to dialogue in Bawku.  Discussions have been frank and constructive, giving stakeholders space to share concerns and aspirations for peace.
2. The Council commends participants for their patience and commitment to peaceful means, noting that progress should not be measured solely by the speed of reaching an agreement.
3. Call for responsible communication: The media, commentators and social-media users are urged to verify information and avoid sensational or inflammatory content, including unverified claims, videos and voice notes capable of heightening tensions, a caution now sharpened by the ease with which AI generated audio, video and images can be mistaken for authentic reporting. Social media must not become another arena for the conflict.
4. Community ownership: Traditional and religious leaders, women and youth are encouraged to continue demonstrating leadership and commitment to peaceful coexistence, as the peace that endures must be one the people themselves own and protect.
5. The Council appreciates UNDP and the Government of Japan’s support and calls on other partners to sustain the process and remain committed to an inclusive, impartial process that protects the confidentiality of sensitive engagements.
6. Peace in Bawku cannot be built by one institution, one community or one intervention, it must be built, sustained and owned together. The dialogue must continue. The trust must grow.
